Well it would be concrete. I was looking at a carpark in Preston the other day and the concrete panels were grey with black stains running down the side panels and depressing looking. Yes concrete building is unsightly and depressing.

Hi Margot What would you substitute for concrete to make Preston less depressing?

To an extent I agree with Margot. Concrete buildings have a lot to answer for in terms of aesthetic appeal. They also proved to be leaky and damp ridden, not quite the cheap material for housing as envisaged in the 60's. When I think of buildings like the Leek Street Flats in Leeds I shudder at the thought that hundreds of families were housed in what turned out to be squalid conditions in this day and age. Thankfully they have gone. Bricks and mortar may be more expensive but they are a better solution in the long run.

I've moved through to Fife from Glasgow and we have a 'New Town' in Fife called Glenrothes.

They have tried to tart it up and put flowers bed and roses here and there and only now are they putting up half decent buildings but at the heart of it, its concrete f***ing monstrosity!

Speaking of living in Fife. I love it there and spent many camping holidays up there with our three daughters. We liked it round Crail and Pittenweem. Crail is a very pretty fishing village. I would love to go again but it would have to be with the grandkids now.
